Lucius Pitkin Inc. is sponsoring our annual design charrette for 100 city students for the next five years with a contribution of $25,000; hats off to Salvadori Board Member and LPI Principal Dr. Robert Vecchio for this contribution. This year’s charrette takes place on June 16 at WFC Winter Garden.Last year, students redesigned Times Square as a kid and pedestrian friendly place. This June, they will design a park and monument in honor of those lost in Haiti’s earthquake. Children work in small teams, and each team is mentored by an architect and engineer from the city’s leading firms. They brainstorm ideas, design and build their model, and then present their work to the rest of the group. It’s an exciting, active day, and the culmination of the students’ year of study with the Salvadori Center at their schools.Lucius Pitkin Inc. is an engineering firm established in 1885 and headquartered in New York City.
