The new school year is about to begin--not that we slowed down at all this summer. While waiting to get back in the classroom, we were busy…

In this issue:

  • New look for salvadori.org!
  • Remembering September 11
  • Summer Institute
  • Webstore sale!

One of our summer projects was an extensive redesign of our web site--and it’s ready for public viewing! Launching today, September 3, the new site is more accessible, navigable and useful than ever. We’ve worked to create a dynamic meeting place and resource for all things Salvadori. From news about standout teachers to stories on events to a wealth of curriculum and resources for teachers, salvadori.org is aiming for the top of your bookmark list. Check it out and tell us what you think!

ImagineNYTo commemorate September 11, we’ve posted an article about our students’ participation in the ImagineNY forum. An initiative of the Municipal Arts Society, this amazing project encouraged city-wide healing through creativity. Students at JHS 56 in Manhattan and The Renaissance Charter School in Queens developed collaborative re-design plans for the World Trade Center site, placing them within a scale model of downtown. We recorded the construction and presentation process, as well as a trip to Ground Zero itself.

From the Brooklyn Bridge to the streets of Harlem, our Summer Institute for teachers was a two-week odyssey of exploration, construction, deconstruction and innovation as those new to and used to Salvadori threw themselves into projects. Gleeful groups of teachers road-tested the lessons from our Project Book (our latest initiative, in development), gaining valuable experience and giving us valuable feedback.

Check in our “Feature Stories” section for the article and photo gallery.
