ENTRY 2

Today when we finally got to go to the bridge, it was really foggy PHOTO. You couldn't even see the tops of the World Trade Center.  But it got sunny by the time we got to the other side.  Ms. T. had made us each copies of the main chart PHOTO we had made.  To keep track of all the shapes, we used a camera.  PHOTO. The camera had 24 pictures so we got to take 4 pictures apiece.

When we were on the bridge, we saw some other shapes that we hadn't thought of before, like the pointed arches that were part of the bridge towers
PHOTO.  Ms. T. said they were Gothic arches GLOSSARY. So we added that to our chart.

While we were looking for shapes, we noticed
MOVIE lots of little things we probably wouldn't have looked at otherwise, like all the bolts that are shaped like hexagons, and rivets that were like half a sphere.  We saw a lot of diamonds too PHOTO.

Jaron, what is the geometrical name for a diamond? Here's a hint:  it starts with the letter 'p' and is 13 letters long.
Ms. T.

Then Ms. T. pointed out how the huge cable, towers, and walkway of the bridge made a humungous right triangle MOVIE.  The cable would be the hypotenuse of the triangle.  She explained that we could use Pythagoras' theorem to find out the length of the cable.  Now I see something that formula is good for!

When we got to where the cables met the walkway, we saw that all the cables made lots of angles
PHOTO where they intersected each other.  Their shadows PHOTO did too.
