Design Challenge:
Captain Isaac, commander of the starship sent to colonize Planet Alpha around the Star Sirius will be landing after a trip of 10 years on May 23, 2167. The colony will be designated by the year of its establishment, the 200th birthday of her great-great…grandfather, Big Al Isaac.

You and your clan will be in charge of designing a region of Colony 2167. You have many critical decisions to make and a very tight schedule for construction before your remaining consumable supplies (including oxygen!) run out and your magnetic shield protecting you from the cosmic rays bombarding the planet weakens.

Please design a model of your region -- composed of 5 interconnected pods -- that reflects your solutions to the following questions:

1. What is the name of your clan and mini-state?

2. Is your mini-state self-sufficient or is it part of a confederacy of mini-states that cooperate/trade to provide all the vital goods and services for Colony 2167?

3. What important goods & services does your clan produce?

4. What resources do you get from Planet Alpha's depths, surface and atmosphere? How do you harvest these resources? What did you have to bring with you from Planet Earth?

5. What does your clan's region look like? How are your 5 pods connected? How are they connected to the rest of Colony 2167?

6. Is Colony 2167 still connected to Planet Earth? How?
