Salvadori Educator Institutes

Each year the Salvadori Center opens its doors to teachers from New York City and beyond so that they can explore methods of project-based learning anchored in the built environment.

National Institute

Immerse yourself in the buildings, bridges, monuments, parks, and historic districts of New York City. Through walking tours, visits to architectural and engineering firms and construction sites, and hands-on exploration of Salvadori lesson plans, you will be engaged in projects that address math, science, literacy, technology, social studies, and fine arts. Salvadori educators will help you develop project-based lesson plans specific to your curriculum and your "landscape."

  • Evening cultural programs, tours and meals included
  • On-campus housing available
  • DATES: July 20 - 26, 2008
  • COST: $1000 per person - Includes lodging [$650 without lodging], most meals, field trips, cultural events, and materials. There is a discount for 2 or more teachers from the same school or district.

Three-Day "Turbo" Institute

The "Turbo" Institute covers many of the same topics as the National Institute but is designed for educators in the metropolitan New York City area who can travel to the City College of New York campus.

  • DATES: July 8, 9, 10, 2008
  • SCHEDULE: 9 – 4PM, with an evening program on July 8
  • COST: $250 - There is a 10% discount for 2 or more teachers from the same district.

Regional Institutes

Regional Institutes are designed for schools outside metropolitan New York City who find it more convenient and cost-effective to have the Center’s educators at their site. Costs, dates, and times vary.
