Dr. Leonisa Ardizzone, Executive Director 

Dr. Leonisa Ardizzone

Dr. Ardizzone started her education career as a middle and high school science teacher working primarily with high-risk youth in Seattle, Ithaca (NY), and New York City. She holds an M.Ed in Science Education from Western Washington University, and an Ed.D. in International Educational Development from Columbia University's, Teachers College. Her doctoral concentration was in Peace Education – an area that examines the root causes of violence and seeks to address them via education. The underlying values of peace education – planetary stewardship, humane relationships, and global citizenship – pervade every aspect of her work in education and she brings this perspective to the Salvadori Center.

Kathryn Slocum, Director of External Affairs

Kathryn began working with the Salvadori Center in 2001 as a consultant and joined the staff in 2007. She has over 20 years of experience in fundraising for nonprofits, including the Hudson River Museum, MASS MoCA, the Municipal Art Society, and the Art Institute of Chicago.  

Kathryn serves on the boards of the Greater Hudson Heritage Network and Jazz Forum Arts.

Edsel Cromwell, Fiscal Officer

Edsel has accumulated in excess of over twenty-five years of experience in government, corporate and non-profit financial accounting and management. The last sixteen of those years were spent in the non-profit sector, commencing in ‘Headstart’, after which, he held various senior level accounting positions in other non-profit agencies around the Tri-State area. In the pursuit of continuing education, he has also received in training in Audit/Taxes (advanced), Fund-raising Law and Regulation, Banking II and Tax Compliance as it relates to non-profit organizations. He also enjoys collecting and listening to jazz music. 

Pat Shuford, Senior Architect-Educator

In her hometown, Baltimore, MD, Pat taught JHS math and remedial math at her Alma Mater, Morgan State University.  Since graduating from Pratt Institute with a professional degree in architecture, Pat has been University Architect at Queens College (CUNY) and Assistant Vice Director of Architecture and Planning at the Brooklyn Museum.  Pat has managed multi-million dollar projects at Battery Park City and Rockefeller Center.  She is the recipient of the prestigious AIA (American Institute of Architects) Scholars Award and a former editor of the Research & Design Journal at the AIA Research Corporation.  Pat started at the center in 1998.

Catherine Holland, Program Director

Catherine has 25 years of experience in educational programming, ranging from work with community-based organizations to private entities that supplement school programs for students. She has worked as a health educator, a private tutor, and Executive Director of The Princeton Review-Philadelphia. She joined the Center in 2008 and was educated at the University of Virginia and the University of Pennsylvania.

Michael Bettencourt, Administrative Director

Michael handles the day-to-day operations of the Center. He has degrees from Harvard College (BA, American History & Literature), Cornell University (MAT, English), and New York University (MFA, Dramatic Writing). He is a published biographer, essayist, poet, short-story writer, and journalist/photographer as well as an award-winning playwright and screenwriter.

Janny Gédéon, Senior Architect-Educator

Janny received a BS in Architecture from City College (1995) and a Masters in Urban Planning from Hunter College (2000). With the Center since 1997, Janny has been an integral part of curriculum and program development including the creation of KidBridges and architecture clubs at a number of schools. Originally from Haiti, she is a co-founder of the Haitian Heritage Awareness Network (H2AN), promoting the preservation of Haiti's architectural treasures.
