What activities are in
Salvadori in a Box?

The Salvadori in a Box includes 8 activities:

  • Activity 1: Tension & Compression

  • Activity 2: Arch

  • Activity 3: Shape & Strength

  • Activity 4: Beam & Suspension

  • Activity 5: Sky High Challenge

  • Activity 6: Columns

  • Activity 7: Beams

  • Activity 8: Structural Grids & Facades

  • Activity 1: Tension & Compression

Salvadori students explore the forces of tension & compression by creating and testing columns to failure to see which material is the strongest.

  • Activity 2: Arch Bridge

Salvadori students construct an arch bridge and learn how forces travel through the bridge by testing its load-bearing capacity until it collapses!

  • Activity 3: Shape & Strength

Salvadori students test various bridge spans to learn how shape impacts strength.

  • Activity 4: Beam & Suspension

Salvadori students build and test a beam bridge and a suspension bridge to learn how design impact strength.

  • Activity 5: Sky High Challenge

Salvadori students construct the tallest skyscraper from limited materials, while following specific guidelines.

  • Activity 6: Columns

Salvadori students test columns to understand how the shape of each column impacts strength.

  • Activity 7: Beams

Salvadori students test beams to learn how the shape of each beam impacts strength.

  • Activity 8: Structural Grids & Facades

Salvadori students build their own model of a skyscraper by creating a structural grid and facade.
